SUMMARY:Robert Earl Keen - Then and Now
DESCRIPTION:7PM \nLobby doors open: 6PM\nSeating begins: 6:30PM \nTickets: $40\, $50\, $60\, $100 + tax/fees \n\nNo two creative lives unfold the same way\, and for Robert Earl Keen\, the story was never going to end with a quiet retreat. After decades on the road\, with 21 albums\, countless shows\, songs sung by legends like George Strait and The Highwaymen\, and honors ranging from the BMI Troubadour Award to the Texas A&M Distinguished Alumni Award\, he might have had every reason to slow down. But Keen has always seen the open road as a beginning\, never an end. \nRather than closing the book\, Keen has turned the page to something vivid\, unpredictable\, and wide open. A new chapter not so much about winding down as it is about doubling down. And if the last year is any indication\, he is just getting started. \nKeen’s calendar is fuller than ever\, and the stages are getting bigger. This year alone\, he made his Grand Ole Opry debut\, joined Tyler Childers for a sold-out performance at the Hollywood Bowl\, and helped his longtime friends Turnpike Troubadours bring the house down at Red Rocks Amphitheater. He continues to headline iconic venues across the country\, host his Americana Podcast: The 51st State\, write a forthcoming book\, and currently working on a new studio album. \nThis creative bloom is not a resurgence\, but a renaissance. Keen moves through it with the clarity and confidence of someone who knows exactly what he wants to express\, and precisely how to shape it. Long admired for his painterly approach to songwriting\, Keen writes with a visual sensitivity that brings scenes and emotions into sharp focus. His songs unfold like carefully rendered portraits or landscapes\, each line adding color\, texture\, and depth. He captures fleeting details—a gesture\, a glance\, a shift in light—and transforms them into something enduring. His ability to balance specificity with subtlety gives the listener a sense of place and presence. Keen’s songwriting creates a fine line between complex story-telling and audience appeal. Beneath it all is not just momentum\, but a quieter\, hard-earned joy\, a rhythm that comes from moving forward with purpose and the steady confidence of someone who has found his true pace. \nBut even as he looks ahead\, Robert Keen keeps his roots close. His Annual Homecoming Weekend—an ever-growing celebration of friends\, family\, fans\, and music—culminates in the free Fan Appreciation Day concert at John T. Floore’s Country Store\, a beloved Texas institution. The event reflects Keen’s signature combination of authenticity and altruism\, and his enduring connection to the people who have walked alongside him throughout his journey. This year\, he also led Applause for the Cause\, a major benefit concert raising over three million dollars for flood relief in the Texas Hill Country. It was a testament not just to his influence\, but to his commitment to the community that has nurtured him for over two decades. \nOnstage\, Keen and his band are sharper\, and more alive than ever\, playing not to prove anything\, but to celebrate everything. And every night\, as the lights go up and the chorus swells\, one truth becomes unmistakably clear: the road goes on forever\, the party never ends\, and Robert Earl Keen is still at the center of it all\, guitar in hand\, moving forward with grace\, grit\, and boundless imagination. \nAbout Coleman Jennings: \nWith a hypnotic vibrato made to cut through the haze of modern life\, and an old-school dedication to Western twang\, Coleman Jennings can seem like a conduit to a different time – or even\, a different spiritual plane. But as the country provocateur and Big Loud/Mercury singer-songwriter says\, his music is no echo of the past. More like a fierce statement of originality\, crafted to stand out … and shake you to your core. Never afraid to call out the dull conventionality of commercial pop\, the Texas native is a student of music with inspirations like John Denver\, Bob Dylan\, Townes Van Zandt\, The Eagles\, Blaze Foley\, John Hartford\, and Lynyrd Skynyrd\,. Diving deep into guitar while in high school\, the gritty\, unvarnished realism of roots poet Blaze Foley sparked an obsession with the art of country music\, and stoked an anti-establishment fire which still burns. Honing a modern-classic sound\, Jennings’ 2024 EP Wildflowers & Tears earned him comparisons to Willie Nelson and Townes Van Zandt\, now a new chapter begins. Working with Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton\, Sturgill Simpson)\, Jennings raises his distinctive voice for all to hear on his debut single\, “Head Spinning\,” which speaks to Jennings’ originality and captures the country-folk spirit.

SUMMARY:Met Opera: El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego (Frank)
DESCRIPTION:1PM\nLobby doors open and seating begins: 12:30PM\nTickets: $20 (includes tax) + fees \nEstimated run time: 2 hours 25 minutes \n\nAmerican composer Gabriela Lena Frank makes her Met debut with her first opera\, a magical-realist portrait of Mexico’s painterly power couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera\, with libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz. Fashioned as a reversal of the Orpheus and Euridice myth\, the story depicts Frida\, sung by leading mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard\, leaving the underworld on the Day of the Dead and reuniting with Diego\, portrayed by baritone Carlos Álvarez. The famously feuding pair briefly relive their tumultuous love\, embracing both the passion and the pain before bidding the land of the living a final farewell. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the Met premiere of Frank’s opera\, a “confident\, richly imagined score” (The New Yorker) that “bursts with color and fresh individuality” (Los Angeles Times). The vibrant new production\, taking enthusiastic inspiration from Frida and Diego’s paintings\, is directed and choreographed by Deborah Colker\, following her remarkable 2024 debut staging of Ainadamar. \n\nThis season’s Encore Metropolitan Opera Series is presented in honor of Kathy & Bill Harm.

On October 25 and 26\, 2024\, just days before the US presidential election\, Folds recorded two sold out performances with the NSO which he released as a live album in July which debuted at the top of the Billboard classical and classical crossover charts. \nA New York Times Best Selling author\, Ben also creates new music for film\, tv and theatre\, with original new music he composed to be featured in an animated Peanuts special airing this summer on Apple TV. \nIn 2022\, he launched a music education charitable initiative in his native state of North Carolina entitled “Keys For Kids\,” which provides funds and keyboards to existing nonprofits that offer free or affordable piano lessons to school-age children from economically-disadvantaged households. For the past 15 years he has been an outspoken advocate for arts funding\, music education and music therapy in the US as a member of Americans For The Arts and the Arts Action Fund. \n\nAbout Lindsey Kraft: \nLindsey Kraft is a multi-faceted artist – actress\, singer\, and composer. Within the first few moments of her piece\, concertgoers realized how perfect the pairing was. A burgeoning newcomer to musical performances\, Kraft\, in addition to her brilliant piano playing and songs\, masterfully interacted with and entertained the audience with her witty and sincere songs.” \nShe characterizes her songs as deeply personal\, funny\, and sad\, her sound inspired by Carly Simon\, Carole King\, Billy Joel\, Bette Midler\, Randy Newman\, and Broadway (but like\, only the good shows). SUMMARY:Chanticleer: Our American Journey
DESCRIPTION:7PM \nLobby doors open: 6PM\nSeating begins: 6:30PM \nTickets: All seats $35 + tax/fees \n\nOn-sale Friday\, May 22 @ 10AM\nMember pre-sale Thursday\, May 21 @ 12PM \nBecome a $125+ Member to get tickets early\n\nAbout Our American Journey\nWe celebrate America’s 250th year of independence by showcasing the diverse voices\, songs\, harmonies\, and rhythms of our shared musical heritage. We explore how those voices influenced each other\, and how we’ve come to understand the impact and legacy of those voices in the present day. The cornerstone of this program will be a new commission by composer Trevor Weston\, demonstrating the link between traditional American hymnody and African American Spirituals. Other repertoire traces the progression of the American choral tradition from Black Gospel quartets to Shape-Note singing to Barbershop quartets and vocal jazz. The program also includes settings of traditional American Bluegrass tunes and beloved folk songs\, like “Calling my Children Home” and “Shenandoah\,” as well as arrangements of contemporary American classics\, like Queen’s “Somebody to Love” and “Home” from The Wiz. \n\nAbout Chanticleer\nKnown around the world for its eclectic repertoire and dazzling virtuosity\, the Grammy Award-winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer – under the leadership of Music Director Tim Keeler – has been hailed by the Boston Globe as “breathtaking in its accuracy of intonation\, purity of blend\, of color and swagger of style.” Founded in San Francisco in 1978 by singer and musicologist Louis Botto\, Chanticleer quickly took its place as one of the most prolific recording and touring ensembles in the world\, an “orchestra of voices” performing thousands of live concerts and selling more than one million recordings. \nRooted in the Renaissance\, Chanticleer’s repertoire has expanded to include a wide range of classical\, gospel\, jazz and popular music\, and the group performs its beloved “A Chanticleer Christmas” program on tour every December. A new Christmas album\, Joy to the World\, will be released in Fall 2025. With a deep commitment to the commissioning of new compositions and arrangements\, Chanticleer foregrounds American repertoire and a distinctively American sound\, complementing the group’s signature diversity in terms of membership and genre. The ensemble has dedicated much of its vast recording catalogue to these commissions\, garnering Grammy Awards for its recordings of Sir John Tavener’s Lamentations & Praises and the ambitious collection of commissioned works entitled Colors of Love. Chanticleer’s 2002 album Our American Journey was inducted into the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress in 2025. The group is the recipient of Chorus America’s Dale Warland Commission Award and the Chorus America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. Chanticleer’s Music Director Emeritus\, Joseph H. Jennings\, received the Brazeal Wayne Dennard Award for his contribution to the African American choral tradition during his 25-year tenure as both singer and Music Director. \nChanticleer – named for the “clear-singing” rooster in Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales – was named Ensemble of the Year by Musical America in 2008 and inducted into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame. The group’s award-winning education programs were recognized with the 2010 Chorus America Education Outreach Award\, and have engaged tens of thousands of students since the ensemble began.

SUMMARY:Pure Prairie League
DESCRIPTION:7:30PM \nLobby doors open: 6:30PM\nSeating begins: 7PM \nTickets: $35\, $45 + tax/fees \n\nFrom their beginnings in mid-Sixties Ohio as a group of friends playing cover tunes to the present-day unit featuring the propulsive team of drummer Scott Thompson and bassist Jared Camic\, Keyboard Master Randy Harper\, Guitar Ace/vocalist Jeff Zona and Pedal Steel/Saxophonist John Heinrich\, PURE PRAIRIE LEAGUE continues to embellish the rich 50-plus year history of one of Country-Rock’s pioneering forces. As one reviewer recently wrote: “PPL’s sound combines sweet memories with edgy\, contemporary muscle. Their vocals are as strong as Kentucky moonshine and the musicianship and performance skills are as sharp as a straight razor”. \nTheir eponymous first album – featuring the Norman Rockwell/Saturday Evening Post cover that introduced fans to PPL’s trademark cowpoke “Sad Luke” – has been hailed as a “major early influence in the emerging popularity of Country-Rock music”. Their second effort\, the multi-platinum “Bustin’ Out” brought us the Craig Fuller-penned classic “Amie”\, along with other gems of the genre. With “Two Lane Highway”\, nine more albums and countless shows\, a legacy has been forged and enriched\, highlighting contributions from several noteworthy members\, including original co-founder George Ed Powell\, Cincinnati’s legendary Goshorn Brothers\, Country Hall of Famers Gary Burr and Vince Gill\, award-winning writer Jeff Wilson (3 Top-20 singles)\, top Nashville session vocalist Curtis Wright and a host of other guest appearances from Chet Atkins\, Johnny Gimble\, EmmyLou Harris\, David Sanborn\, Eagle Don Felder\, Nicolette Larson\, Rosemary Butler\, Jenifer Wrinkle\, Jeff (Birdman) Kirk\, Mat Britain and many more. \nNow in their sixth decade\, Pure Prairie League continues to lead the way for the new generation of Country/Rockers such as Keith Urban\, Nickel Creek\, Wilco\, Counting Crows and so many others that cite PPL as a major influence. \nNow\, with the release of their new album “Back On Track” PPL brings it all back home with a dozen new songs that complete the circle begun in 1970 and continues to this day.

But while that band is still very much alive\, it was never enough to satisfy Lewis’ creative drive. \nEmbracing his roots to earn a rare second round of success\, a series of solo Country projects have led to two No. 1 Billboard Country Album debuts – TOWN LINE (2011) and SINNER (2016) – plus a PLATINUM collab with heroes George Jones and Charlie Daniels (“Country Boy”)\, and a GOLD-certified Billboard No. 1 with “Am I The Only One” in 2021. Lewis’ 2022 solo album followed suit\, with FRAYED AT BOTH ENDS emerging as the best-selling Country album in America but he never wrote songs for the stats. \nNo matter the sonic setting\, Lewis writes and sings to get his truth out and his latest album THE HILL (2024) is no different.
