Following her radiant turn in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette—which garnered raves for “high notes that spun like liquid gold … Sierra touched the operatic firmament” (The New York Times)—superstar soprano Nadine Sierra takes on another alluring French heroine, the irresistible title character of Massenet’s passionate drama. Leading tenor Matthew Polenzani is her idealistic lover, the Chevalier des Grieux, with rising-star baritone Andrzej Filończyk as her stalwart cousin, Lescaut, in a breathtaking Belle Époque staging by director Laurent Pelly.

How can I get my friend to experience the opera?

– The Paramount was originally built as an opera house.
– If they play golf, watch a baseball game, or watch tv for a few hours, the opera is about this long.
– Opera is the most spectacular of all the performing arts, involving: song,  instrumentals, drama,  dance, design

I can’t sit that long!

You don’t have to, there is an intermission, buy a snack. You can stand in the back. (Leave at the intermission, thanks for trying!)

What should I wear?

Whatever you feel like. It doesn’t have to be the fancy event that you were imagining.

Homework before you show up, if possible:

– Listen to some of the music on Spotify.
– Google the synopsis to understand the story line.

Toi, toi, toi! – German Opera speak for “Break a leg!”
Hope you and a friend enjoy this experience!
